Which packaging to transport a piece of furniture?
Before shipping your furniture, the packaging is essential, since before completing the shipping information in our comparator, you must weigh and measure your goods once they are packed. It is the dimensions and weight of your packaged goods that you must enter in our comparator in order not to make a mistake and avoid additional billing from the carrier.
We highly recommend to dismantle your furniture before packing it, it may be too big to benefit from the most offers. Each carrier has its own maximum dimensions for taking in charge, so by dismantling your furniture, you will reduce its volume and will be able to benefit from more offers (if it is a large parcel like a wardrobe or a sofa).
Moreover, it will be more complicated to protect for its transport, because the package will be more fragile. For example, if you are shipping an empty cabinet that is not disassembled, you will have to make sure to fill in the empty spaces in order to limit the risk of shocks, breakage or that your package is crushed. Disassembling your furniture will make it easier to pack and protect it.
You will need to protect each item individually to prevent the pieces from colliding during shipping.
Be sure to fill in the empty spaces in your packing boxes with bubble wrap, Styrofoam or any other type of cushioning material.
How to pack your items for furniture transport ?
- If your package weighs more than 20 kg we advise you to use a double or triple fluted box.
- If your parcel weighs more than 50 kg we advise you to use a wooden, metal or solid plastic box, as well as an interior protection in preformed foam. For this type of shipment, we strongly recommend the use of a pallet so that the transport is carried out in the best possible conditions.
- Make sure that the size of the container (cardboard, wooden box etc.) is the right size to support the weight of your shipment, and that the surfaces are flat (i.e. not curved or bulging)
We advise you to check the carrier's General Terms and Conditions, or the reference page of the selected transport service, in order to make sure that your shipment falls within the carrier's size limitations.
Attention it is possible that the courier takes charge of your parcel and sends it anyway, however, even if the courier takes charge of your parcel you expose yourself to an additional invoicing because of non-regulated dimensions or a non-conforming packing.
